The money I’d been waiting for has finally come through. I didn’t waste much time either. I got ready and went straight out to the bank and then onto Jessops to buy my shiny new camera. I didn’t even bother to have a play around with it as I’d already made up my mind as to which camera I wanted. I’d read loads of reviews, looked at hundreds of photos taken with it and that was it. I knew exactly which camera I was going to buy. I must admit though that I originally wanted the Canon EOS 40D, but it was much more than I could afford. Anyway, I’m more than happy with the 450D and I’ve been out and about taking photos around Newcastle. You can see some of my early attempts on my Flickr Photostream.
I found this article on megapixels that I thought I’d share here.
Pixels Are Like Cupcakes. Let Me Explain.

Why ‘more is better’ isn’t necessarily true when it comes to megapixels and digital cameras.
I have to say I’m pretty disappointed that my money still hasn’t come through yet. I was hoping it would come in time for me to get this camera so I could take some photos of the fireworks tonight.
I’ll just have to keep checking my bank account…..
Following on from the post about Angela Jayne Barnett, I thought I’d post here about the main lens she uses for her landscape photography.
The reason I’m posting about it and her is because I too would love to take good landscape shots, and I like the results obtainable with this lens. It’ll be a while before I’ll be able to afford it though.
Here’s a description from Amazon
10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM lens allows enjoyment of super wide-angle photography and it is a very powerful tool for indoor shooting and landscape photography with APS-C size image sensors of digital SLR cameras. Wide angle of view (102.4 ° at 10mm and 63.8 ° at 20mm) offers the photographer greater freedom of expression. Three SLD glass elements are employed for effective compensation of color aberration, which is a common problem with super-wide angle lenses. One piece of glass mould and two hybrid aspherical lenses, offer excellent correction for distortion, as well as all types of aberration. This lens is equipped with an inner focusing system, and the models which are equipped with HSM system provide quiet, high speed autofocus shooting and also offer full time manual focusing. It has a minimum focusing distance of 24cm (9.4») at all focal lengths. The non-rotating lens barrel perfectly suits the petal shaped lens hood. A circular polarizing filter can also be used conveniently.
I came across Angela’s website a couple of weeks ago while I was researching various cameras, and was amazed and absolutely spellbound by her work. She uses a Canon EOS 400D, which is one of the cameras I was looking at. I wanted to see what it was capable of and it kinda made my mind up for me.
I know it’s not exactly the equipment that makes such great photos, it’s also a lot to do with the photographer and their skill, and believe me, I think Angela is very gifted.
Angela is a landscape photographer and digital artist, and her photos and images are absolutely amazing. They are of a Celtic nature, and are very atmospheric and mysterious.
I’ve been waiting a few weeks now to buy a new camera. The one I have my eye on is the Canon EOS 450D. I’d rather have the EOS 40D but I can’t afford it, so I’ll have to compromise.
The reason I’m having to wait is because I haven’t got the money in my bank account yet. I have no idea how long it’s going to take, but I’m expecting something in the region of £960. I’ve been on the phone a few times to the powers that be, and they are waiting to hear from another department before they can calculate the amount they are to pay me. It shouldn’t be much longer now. I’m getting excited! I’ve been waiting since October 17th.
The new camera will make a huge difference to my photographs. As I stated in my about page, I only have a Canon Powershot A430 at the moment, but I feel a bit limited as to what I can do with it. One thing it’s not very good for and which is something that I’m interested in, is night time photography.
Here’s a photo of the new camera. Maybe by posting a pic of it, it might help to hurry things along. One can hope and dream. lol
