Annie Leibovitz – Life Through a Lens

I got this DVD two weeks ago because I'm a huge fan of Annie Leibovitz.  If you'd like to see behind the scenes as Annie gets to work, this is a great DVD to own.  It tells of her life story, how she got into photography and includes interviews with many of the people she has photographed over the years.

Product Description
A documentary about the life and work of the iconic American photographer - directed by her sister, Barbara Leibovitz. Almost as famous as the people she photographs, Annie Leibovitz is one of America s most celebrated portrait photographers, capturing her subjects from Demi Moore and Nicole Kidman to the GeorgeWBush cabinet with often theatrical or provocative imagination, her work regularly adorning the covers of Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and the New Yorker since the early 1980s. Annie s own life has been private and protected, but this documentary feature follows Annie Leibovitz s career of more than 30 years, reflecting on the influence of her relationship with partner Susan Sontag, and featuring interviews with Graydon Carter, Rosanne Cash, Hillary Rodham Clinton,Whoopi Goldberg, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Yoko Ono and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gloria Steinem and AnnaWintour.

Synopsis
Directed by her sister, Barbara, this revealing documentary shed light on the life and work of renowned American photographer Annie Leibovitz. Featuring interviews with many of Leibovitz's subjects—these include the likes of Hilary Rodham Clinton, Whoopi Goldberg, Mick Jagger, Yoko Ono and Arnold Schwarzenegger—ANNIE LEIBOVITZ: LIFE THROUGH A LENS is a mesmerising insight into the glitzy world of celebrity culture.

Remote shutter release cable

I bought one  these last week and can only say I'm very impressed with it.  I really love taking photos in low light.  The problem with this though is that you need longer exposures/shutter speeds.  This can cause camera shake and blurred images.  So, set your camera up on a tripod or other stable surface, plug the cable into the camera,  and you can fire away without touching your camera.  When I get some of the images processed, I'll put them online. :)

You can get hold of one of these at Amazon.  They're pretty reasonable at £13.97

Yashica FX-D Quartz

Yashica FX-D Quartz, originally uploaded by Marcos Eduardo Degrossoli.

This was my first ever SLR camera. It was given to me as a 21st birthday present in 1982, together with a load of darkroom equipment. I loved this camera and learned a lot about processing colour and black & white film and prints during this period.

Disaster struck though a couple of years later, when I dropped my camera outside and broke it beyond repair. This resulted in me selling off everything to do with photography. This is one of my biggest regrets.

A Day In The Life Of A Stock Reviewer

I found this funny post whilst jumping from photography site to photography site.

I reviewed all day long, about 10 hours I think, and today was one of those days where all I saw were images that were not in focus at all, anywhere in the photo, .... artifacts, noise and blurriness all at the same time, ... underexposed images, ... blown highlights, ... color fringing, ... and over-saturated colors that painfully hurt my eyeballs to look at them....

Schmap Newcastle upon Tyne Sixth Edition: Photo Inclusion

I was delighted to receive an email from Schmap to let me know that one of my photos was selected for inclusion in their sixth edition of the Schmap Newcastle upon Tyne guide. I had received an email on Christmas Eve to let me know that one of my photos had been shortlisted. I agreed but didn't really think it would be accepted.

Anyway, the photo they selected was of St Nicholas Cathedral in Newcastle upon Tyne...
